Ghost Hits Wall

"Ghost Hits Wall" ist Teil eines kunstbasierten Forschungsprojekts über chinesische Geisterstädte mit dem Titel "Of Haunted Spaces" (2016-19). Das Filmmaterial wurde in einer Kombination aus Schauspiel und Dokumentation gedreht, um den phantasmatischen Aspekt des globalen Kapitalismus aufzuzeigen. In China führt die Notwendigkeit, das Wirtschaftswachstum durch Überproduktion aufrechtzuerhalten und anzukurbeln, dazu, dass mehr Städte als eigentlich benötigt gebaut werden. Untersucht wird, wie der globale Kapitalismus die Lebensbedingungen unserer Zeit beeinflusst und heimsucht. Städtische Räume, die einst in der kollektiven Fantasie eine grandiose Vision zur Steigerung des Wohlstands waren, sind heute erschöpfte und leere Orte.

"Ghost Hits Wall" is part of an art-based research project on Chinese ghost cities entitled "Of Haunted Spaces" (2016-19). The footage was filmed using a combination of drama and documentary techniques to highlight the phantasmatic aspect of global capitalism. In China, the need to maintain and stimulate economic growth through overproduction leads to the construction of more cities than are actually required. The project examines how global capitalism influences and haunts the living conditions of our time. Urban spaces that were once a grand vision in the collective imagination for increasing prosperity are now exhausted and empty places.
