The video work “Woman in Green” examines the female labour and the portrayal of female creativity through Agatha Christie’s novel “The Hollow”. The video is part of a larger body of work of the same name created between 2020 and 2022.

“The Hollow” (Agatha Christie, 1946) is a classic country house mystery and yet an unusual novel for its time because of its many female protagonists and psychology-driven narrative. Imprisoned in their social roles, the women of “The Hollow” are expected to behave according to convention: the dazzling Hollywood actress; the devoted wife; the aristocratic lady of the house; the stubbornly independent working girl. The key to the puzzle is in understanding that the characters’ true motivations contradict their assigned identities: at first glance a murder mystery, “The Hollow” is actually a feminist and social critique.

Among this variety of characters, the video work focuses on the sculptress Henrietta Savernake. By appropriating parts of the novel that constitute Henrietta’s inner dialogue and her yearning and failure to realize her sculpture, “Woman in Green” examines an image of a woman artist as perceived by her surroundings. The moody, coffee-drinking, introspective Henrietta is being observed: by the novel’s author, its readers, and now the film’s audience. Drawing inspiration from the classic 'artist documentary' genre as well as ASMR social media clips, the film explores themes of self-inscenation, impostership, and the mythology surrounding the figure of the artist.
